Obituary of Grace Mavrides

Grace Mavrides, 97, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Ledges at Rockynol. Grace was born in Bridgeport, CT to the late Christos & Anna Mellas. She married William A. Mavrides in 1950 and they eventually settled in Akron. She proudly returned to college as an adult, nearly completing her Bachelor's degree at the University of Akron. Grace was an active member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. She was a member of Philoptochos of Akron, volunteered with Good Neighbors, loved reading, and was an excellent seamstress. Most of all, Grace loved spending time with her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Grace was preceded in death by her husband William in 1986; and brothers Ted & James Mellas. She is survived by children Paul Mavrides of San Francisco, and Anne Snyder of Akron; grandchildren Emily, Rebecca and Celia Snyder; as well as many other dear loved ones. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 18, from 5-7 PM at the Anthony Funeral Home, Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron. Funeral services will be held 11AM Friday at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 129 S, Union St. in Akron. Interment at Mt. Peace Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the William A. Mavrides Memorial Fund, c/o the University of Akron Foundation, Department of Development, Akron, OH 44325-2603.
