Louise Bella (Socha) Daniel, 89, passed away at her home in Akron on February 4, 2016. Born in Garfield, New Jersey on June 21, 1926, she was the last survivor of 11 children of Andrew and Dorothea Socha.
She attended Garfield, NJ schools and received a BS degree from New Jersey State Teachers College and an MA degree from Columbia University. She retired in 1985 from the Akron Public Schools after having taught for over 30 years in New Jersey and Ohio schools, most of these years in the primary and elementary grades at Alvin C. Voris School in Akron. Mrs. Daniel was a Martha Holden Jennings Foundation Scholar, recognized for excellence in public school teaching, and was an honorary life member of the Ohio PTA.
Following retirement, she frequently attended classes in the University of Akron's over-60 program, and traveled extensively with her husband of 62 years, the late Rev. Thomas A. Daniel, who preceded her in death in 2012. From 1955-84, Mrs. Daniel contributed greatly to the nursery school, children's choir and many other programs at St. John Lutheran Church, where her husband served as pastor.
She was the mother of Tom, of Seoul, Korea; Missy, of Washington, DC; Leah, of Akron; and Tim (Deborah) of Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan; the grandmother of Katie Eller (Bryce), Anna Eller Smith (Andrew), Madeleine Eller, Ben Eller, Al Daniel, Robert Daniel, Emma Daniel, Syd Daniel and Sam Daniel; and the great-grandmother of Chelsea Smith.
The Daniel Family will hold services privately, and will plan for a public celebration of her life at a later date. (Anthony Funeral Homes, 330.724.1281, anthonyfh.com)
