Obituary of Anthony Joseph Crookston

Anthony Joseph Crookston, Jr. was called into eternal life on Christmas Eve at home surrounded by his family at the age of 92. He was born on May 22nd, 1919 to Anthony and Mary (Heimann) Crookston in Cuyahoga Falls, OH. He was a lifelong resident of the area. As a young married man, Tony was employed by Babcock and Wilcox of Barberton. He ventured into several self-employment opportunities before finding his place in residential construction as a respected roofing contractor. When the time was right, Tony formed a roofing company with his six sons, which eventually included one daughter. This successful partnership was affectionately known as Tony Crookston & Sons & Sons. The roofing company transformed with five sons and three daughters into the present day C.C. Supply, which was founded by Tony in 1974. He was preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Mary and siblings Helen, Tom, Bob, and Al and sons-in-law George and Ray. Tony is survived by his beloved wife, of 70 years, Rita Weigand, and his children Pat Reese Peters, Joanne Schmitt (Bob), Carol, Larry (Julie), Dan (Karen), Bill (Paula), Barbara (Sister Mary Jude), Joe (Donna), Marie Luc (Bill), Tony (Linda), Rita Halmasy (Larry), Frank (Oriana), and Esther Zoeckler (Joe). He will be sadly missed by his 68 grandchildren: George, Charlene, Pam, Brian, Mike, Matt, Bob, Laura, Joan, Jen, Greg, Melinda, Nikki, Andy, Katie, Danny, Linda, Sarah, Rebecca, Ben, Ellen, Teddy, Julie, Larry, Tommy, Elizabeth, Max, Tony, Bill, Heather, Adam, Rita, Patrick, Elizabeth, Monica, Bernadette, Anne Marie, Paul, Chris, Steve, Denise, Conrad, A.J., Joan, Barb, Maria, Larry, Rachel, Andrew, John, Geta, Joseph, Vincent, Frank, Theresa, Patty, Michael, Gregory, Tanya, Nicholas, Cecilia, Rebecca, Emily, Matthew, Dominic, Joseph, Patrick, and Laurence. His 48 great-grandchildren and his one expected great-great-grandchild will miss his wisdom and knowledge. He is also survived by his siblings: Joe, Don, Jim, Peg, Martha, and Lenny. Tony was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Cleveland, a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1617, a member of the Magic City Kiwanis, Akron Home Builders Association, and other numerous organizations. Tony served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Our Dad and Grandfather leaves us a legacy of deep faith, principles, and discipline. We are eternally grateful to his caregivers Cathy and Joanne. The family will receive friends Thursday December 29, from 2 to 8 pm at Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main Street, Akron, OH. A Requiem High Mass will be held 11 am on Friday December 30 at St. Sebastian Church, 476 Mull Ave., Akron. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
