Obituary of Michael Alvah Zanin
Michael Alvah Zanin went unexpectedly home to be with our Lord on November 9, 2011.
Mike was born in Buffalo, New York on May 31, 1949. He was preceded in death by his mother Prudence Chase and is survived by his father, Armando Zanin and his siblings Mary Phillips (Patrick), William (Susan), Andrew, Mark (Lisa), Catherine, Karen Hoffman (William), Ellen Gorrell (Richard), Christopher (Patricia), Margaret (Bernadine), Brigid DiPaolo (Jeffrey), John (Susan), Peter (Kathy) and many loving nieces and nephews.
Mike began college at age 16 and was a lifetime learner. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the Intelligence branch as a translator. He later earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin then his Bachelor of Science from the University of Akron. Mike recently completed the course work for his Masters in Engineering and was currently working on his doctorate degree from the University of Akron. Mike had a wide and varied work career. From his early interest in architecture, to local politics and then finally settling into the challenging field of mechanical engineering, Mike was always learning.
Mike had a love of history and travel. He was an avid reader with a broad range of interests. In addition to history, he also enjoyed reading about politics, religion, mysteries and cooking. Mike enjoyed any game that required strategy and finesse. He was a man of many talents and shared his skill as a photographer with all who entered his life.
The foremost passion of Mike's life was his family. He was the proud big brother of twelve siblings. Mike was generous almost to a fault. He was always ready to give advice and help financially when needed. He was a truly a unique individual and will be greatly missed.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 11, 2011 at the Anthony Funeral Home McGowan-Reid & Santos Chapel from 5:30 to 7:30pm. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 10:00am. Interment at Chestnut Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
