Obituary of Robert Glenn Saffles
On a warm sunny day Robert (Bob) Saffles went for his final motorcycle ride. He was with friends doing what he loved. On Saturday, October 7, 2011 he went to rest in the loving arms of the Lord.
Robert was born June 16, 1930 to Wright A. and Mary Frances (Williams) Saffles. He was a graduate of Manchester High School and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1988.
Robert enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather. His beloved wife Helen (Horvath) preceded him in death in 1973. He raised his three children Randall G. (Janice) Saffles, Detective Renee G. Saffles SDPD and Lt. Rodney G. (Taylor) Saffles USN Ret. He leaves behind his grandchildren Karen (Matt) Elliott and Adam Saffles and Daniel Saffles; great grandchildren David and Michael Elliott. He was preceded in death by his brother John Paul Saffles.
A member of GWRA Chapter T, Moose Lodge, FOP Auxiliary, Southern Cruisers of Florida, BPOE, Eagles 555, Freedom Riders of West Virginia and many other motorcycle clubs he touched many lives. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday 11:00 a.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home, 1990 S. Main St. followed by interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
