Obituary of Dorothy DeCastro
Dorothy DeCastro (Dornack) passed away suddenly July 12, 2011 after a lengthy illness.
Born February 20th, 1933 in Allison PA, Dorothy was a fun-loving energetic girl. She loved the camera and would often be seen striking a pose. She attended Redstone school. Her parents Margaret and Andrew Moser raised her along with 8 siblings.
Dorothy moved to Akron in 1958 with her husband Steve "Teff" Dornack whom she married in 1952 in Uniontown PA. Sadly, she lost him in 1975 to Rheumatoid Arthritis and a heart condition. Dorothy was a very hard worker and an independent woman for much of her life. She worked for Lawsons for many years and volunteered countless hours for her Church. Dorothy was a long time parishioner of St. Michaels Byzantine Catholic Church. She enjoyed baking and was well known for her famous Kieflies and Kolache. She was also well known for her beehive hairdo which she invested many hours into achieving its great height.
In 1979 she met Cloyd T. DeCastro whom she married in Uniontown PA in 1981 and was unconditionally loved by him ever since. Her favorite pass time was watching baseball. She enjoyed spending time with Cloyd "Tom" and her family. She also loved playing bingo and watching her "stories".
Dorothy will forever be remembered for her humor and fun-loving selfless personality. She gave more than she had. She loved being a grandmother and spoiled her grandchildren. However, her secret keeping abilities were flawed. Everyone knew that if you wanted someone to know something, just tell Grandma. We would joke and say telephone, telegram, telegrandma. She would laugh. She was loved by her family and will be greatly missed.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Margaret and Andrew Moser, husband Steve "Teff" Dornack, brothers Steve, Paul, Joe, Andy Jr, and John Moser. She is survived by her husband of 30 years Cloyd "Tom", brother Dan Moser, sisters Esther (Pete) Storm and Mary "Tootsie" (Earl) Federer, sons David (Rene') Dornack and Kenneth (Janet) Dornack, grandchildren Rachael Dornack, David (Maria) Dornack, Jessica (Brandon) Johnson, Steven Dornack and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 6-8 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home KUCKO-ANTHONY-KERTESZ CHAPEL, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron, with a parastas at 7:30 pm. A Funeral Liturgy will take place on Saturday at 11:00 am at St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church in Akron, where Dorothy will lie in state for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
