Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Stich

TALLMADGE, OHIO - Mary Elizabeth (nee Mauck) Stich - Age 89, born in Sciotoville, Ohio to Mary Belle and William Thomas Mauk died on July 7, 2011 at home in Tallmadge. Preceded in death by husband of 59 years, Andrew Stich, parents Mary Belle and Thomas Mauk (nee Mauck), 13 brothers and sisters: Walter Ernest, Molly America, Myrtle May, Theodore, William Lewis, Hester Harper, James, Bessie, Louvisa "Vicy", Charlie, Sue, Johnny, and Wilbur. She is survived by daughter, Melanie E. (Stich) Wasson and son-in-law Kenneth Wasson of Tallmadge, OH; son and daughter-in-law, Michael A. and Bonnie Stich of Malvern, OH; grandchildren, Mary (Nick) Hummel, Donna (Mitch) Shipman, Michael (Diane) Stich, Emily (Brian) Stephens; one sister, Alice M. Putnam; six (6) great-grandchildren, Brandon, Alaina, Katie, Harrison (Stephens), Andy and Abilgail (Stich); and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary (Libby) started her career in Charleston, West Virginia and then moved to Akron, Ohio during WWII to work at Goodyear where she later met her better half (Andy) of 59 years at a Goodyear picnic. As Mom and Dad would laugh and say " it wasn't always a picnic" which captured their true sense of humor. Mom was very active in politics: Sixth Ward Club of Akron, Precinct Committee Person - always manning the voting polls, and the Ellet Citizens Association. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was spunky and full of spirit. She loved a good joke, telling stories of her exceptional childhood growing up with 15 children in the household. She was the best Christmas cookie baker ever with the family always waiting in anticipation for her special treats (especially Kifli). She was the best Mom you could ever ask for. Melanie wishes to thank her husband Kenneth for all of his love, support and sacrifice, in lovingly taking care of Mom, along with daughters and sons, Mary (Nick) and Donna (Mitch). Also thanks for all of the prayers and prayer lists along the way. A special, special thank you to Hospice of Summa -Diane Siddel (Mom's nurse) along with fellow nurses Joyce, Jen and Mike; Amy Sauter, Karen McNatt, Mike Schaub (Chaplain for Hospice), Dr. Christine Hudak, Dr. Kathie Greene, and the wonderful doctors who gave her much love and comfort during her last days. Thanks also to all of Mom's lifelong friends - Jennie Laconi, Pauline Hale, and all other members of the 40 year Yak-Yak Club for being such good friends throughout the years.
