Obituary of Yaroslaw 'Jerry' G Durbak
CUYAHOGA FALLS - Yaroslaw ( Jerry ) G. Durbak, 61, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio died July 6, 2011.
Jerry was born in Altoona, Pa. on July 14, 1949 to Archpriest Canon Taras E. Durbak former pastor of Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church in Akron, Ohio, and Antonia (Banach) Durbak, both formerly of Lviv, Ukraine. He graduated from Archbishop Hoban H.S. , The University of Akron, and Bowling Green State University earning his B.S. in biology and chemistry on a full scholarship.. At Archbishop Hoban High School, Jerry won the City of Akron tennis championship. Jerry loved playing classical piano, nature and hiking trails in the National Parks.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and sister Martha; and is survived by sister, Mary T. Covert (Steven) of Columbus, Ohio, along with many other family and close friends. Jerry was a beautiful person and caring individual who loved spending quality time with his family. He will be dearly and sadly missed. "There's a place in the heart that's not like any other-a warm corner lit by the smile of a brother."
Funeral Services will be held Monday 10:30am at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church. The family will receive friends Sunday 2 to 4 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. where a Parastas Service will be held at 3:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions In Jerry's memory can be made to Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1859 Carter Ave. , Akron, Ohio, 44301, or Akron Children's Hospital Burn Unit, One Perkins Square, Akron, Ohio 44308.
