Obituary of Ann H. Girlando

Ann H. Girlando slipped away on Monday, June 6, at age 96, surrounded by family. Ann was born, the oldest daughter of Hemina and Rudy DeMali in OshKosh, Wisconsin on September 24, 1914. She had 4 older brothers, and 3 younger brothers all of whom preceded her in death, and finally, 3 younger sisters, two of whom survive. The family moved to Akron, Ohio when she was a child. Ann was the adored wife of Ned Girlando, whom she married in 1932. They were married 52 years, until his death in 1984. Ann and Ned moved to Florida in 1978, and she lived in her home in Davie, FL until her death. Although she was a full time wife and homemaker, she was very proud of her short stint as a "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II. "Gramma Annie" as she was known to most everyone, is survived by her beloved daughter, Joan Kovac, former Mayor Of Davie and son in law, Harvey Kovac of Pompano Beach, Florida; three grandchildren, Sherri Ann (Robert) Kimbel of Washington, DC; Laurie Ann (Keith) Walpole of Plantation, Florida; and Joseph (Cheryl) Kovac of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; 4 great- grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Gibitz of Akron, Ohio and Margaret Littlefield of Missouri. She was preceded in death by her only son, Joseph Richard, in 1958. Friends may call Sunday, 4 to 6 p.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron where a funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Graveside service and interment will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery where she will be buried next to her beloved husband, Ned and son Joseph.
