Obituary of Shirley I. Long
Shirley Irene (Cleary) Long passed away in the presence of her loving family and entered heaven on June 1, 2011.
She was born in June 22, 1934 to Fred and Vera (Holderbaum) Cleary in Akron, Ohio and worked as a veterinarian technician at Fulton Animal Hospital before she retired in 1997.
She loved her farm, music, gardening, animals, singing in the choir at St. Francis De Sales Church, and her horses, but most of all she loved her family who cherished the time they were blessed to have with her.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and her grandson Michael Carcione. She leaves behind her husband of 59 years, David M. Long, daughters, Rebecca (Dan) Argenas, Shelly (Bill) Jendrisak, Jennifer (Tony) Carcione , and Kim Lappin. Grandchildren, Anthony Argenas, Timothy Argenas, Nicholas Carcione, Ashley Lappin, David Carcione, Sarah Carcione, Aaron Lappin and Great Grandson Isaac Carcione. Sister, Marilyn Bonner, and brothers, Ken and Bob Cleary.
The family will receive friends Monday from 5-8pm at Anthony Funeral Home, 1990 S. Main Street. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Tuesday, June 7 at St. Francis De Sales Church, 4019 Manchester Rd. Akron OH 44319 with Father David Bline officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. The family is grateful to Shirley's niece Sherry (Cleary) Johnson and the staff at VNS Hospice Care Center for their care and compassion of Shirley and her family. Memorials may be made to St. Vincent De Paul in care of St. Francis, St Francis De Sales itself or Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service, 3358 Ridgewood Rd., Fairlawn, OH 44333-3118.
Shirley loved the song, Home by Michael Buble. We are comforted to know she is finally there.
