Obituary of Richard James Costin

Richard James Costin, Sr., 78, passed away on May 6, at Mercy Medical Center.
Born in Chicago, IL on July 7, 1932 to the late Richard & Louella (Sears) Costin, Dick grew up on the south side of Chicago. He graduated from Little Flower Parochial School and at Calumet High School he enjoyed many lasting friendships, particularly his buddies from the football team. His stay at the University of Wisconsin was short due to his enlistment in the US Air Force. After training on several US bases, he was assigned to Chicksands in Bedfordshire, England as part of the USAF Security Service during the Cold War. Following his discharge from the USAF, he attended the University of Illinois at Navy Pier in Chicago. He graduated from U of I - Urbana with a BS in Marketing. Dick had been an area resident for over 40 years. He retired from Belden & Blake in 1995, where he had worked in industrial sales. He was a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Green. Dick was a member of the Willowdale Men's Club & served on the board of Willowdale Country Club for several years.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his sister Mary Jane Pintur. he is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years Kathy of Jackson Twp.; children Richard (Deborah) Jr. of Jackson Twp., Jerome (Hannah) also of Jackson Twp., Kristine (George) Josif of Van Buren, AK, Therese Costin of Jackson, and Stephen (Carol) of Fishers, IN; grandchildren Jimmy, Mikenna, & Shannon Costin, Jake, Charlie, & Grace Costin, Stacy & Heather Josif, and Joel & Brianna Scherrer.
The family will receive friends TODAY from 5-8 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home of Green, 4178 Massillon Rd (at the Rt. 241 - Steese Rd. Roundabout) in Green. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. David Durkee on Tuesday at 5:00 pm at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church on Steese Rd. in Green. Cremation will follow and a Committal of Ashes will take place with full military honors at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a future date. For those family and friends who are unable to attend the services, in Dick's spirit of enjoying people, please call someone you haven't been in touch with for awhile & remember 'the good times'. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Paramedics of Jackson Twp. Fire Dept. 7383 Fulton Drive Massillon, OH 44646.
