Obituary of Janet Kay Allio

Janet Kay Allio April 1, 1957-April 26, 2011 Janet Kay Allio, 54, of Canton died unexpectedly on April 26, 2011. She rests peacefully in the loving arms of Jesus, just two days after Easter Sunday. Jan was born on Arpil 1,1957 to Carol and Thomas Allio Sr. She was a native of Akron Ohio, where she graduated in 1975 from St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. In addition, she obtained her Bachelors of Science in education and her Masters in Counseling from Kent State University. Janʼs whole life was dedicated to troubled teenagers, children with severe behavioral disorders, and developmentally challenged adults seeking productive employment. She often said: " I donʼt work with disabled persons. I work with people who are differently challenged." In all these endeavors, she manifested Christʼs compassion, hope and unconditional love. Her professional career included: 15 years with the Medina School System, as well as, five years with Quest, where she was certified as a chemical dependency counselor. Jan spent the past five years at Creative Rehabilitation in Canton as a job coach. At Creative Rehabilitation, she mentored and inspired her clients to achieve their full God given potential. Jan recently was appointed V.P. of the Board of Trustees of Tri-County Independent Living Services, as well as, chair of the long range planning committee. She was a gifted song writer and musician. Jan loved nature, the beach, her house, and her two dogs and cat. Most of all, she was devoted to her family, the church and her vast circle of friends. Her quick wit and dry sense of humor were a gift to all. Jan is survived by her parents, Carol and Thomas Allio Sr. of Hartville; brothers Thomas (Kathy) Allio Jr., William (Nancy) Allio, Mark (Michelle) Allio and sister Diane (Paul) Gingo. She is also survived by seven nieces, seven nephews, one great niece and one great nephew. Aunt Janie loved them deeply, taught them the meaning of family, and always remembered the special times of their lives. Jan is also survived by her foster son David Kempher of Indiana. Visitation will be held at the Kucko-Anthony Funeral Home, 1990 S. Main St, Akron on Monday, May 2, 2011 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm. A Mass to celebrate the life of Janet Kay Allio will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 10:00 am. at Visitation of Mary Parish (formerly Annunciation), 87 Broad St. in Akron.
