Obituary of David John Donofrio

David J. Donofrio UNIONTOWN - David J. Donofrio, 88, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at his home. David was born November 29, 1922 to Joseph and Antonia Donofrio in Akron and had been an area resident his entire life. He was employed by Morrison Motor/Chief Motors for over 30 years retiring in 1982. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in N. Canton, Jednota #553 and the AmVets. He was recently honored for 30 years of service as a volunteer at the Canton VA Clinic. David was a veteran of the US Army Rangers during WWII and was in the first wave of the assault on D-Day, scaling the cliffs at Pointe du Hoc. He was a former POW and recipient of two Purple Hearts. David was preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law Mary and Jim McKelvey, grandson-in-law Rob Topper and siblings Pat and Tony Donofrio and Mary Franklin. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Helen (Steciow); children Dr. David (Susan) Donofrio of Dublin, Ohio and Helen (Wayne) Hershberger of Uniontown; grandchildren David Donofrio, Kathy (Chris) Ange, Vicki (Jim) Petrice, Jim McKelvey, Ann (Steve) McCartney and Helen (Mike) Heggedus; great grandchildren Alex, Scott and Morgan Topper, Allyson Moore, Alexis and Jimmy McKelvey and Breanna and Brooke McCartney; and brother Joe (Connie) Donofrio. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday 10:00 am at Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Catholic Church, 2425 Myersville Road, Akron, OH 44312. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday 4 to 8 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S.
