Obituary of Richard Stephen Gonzi
-CUYAHOGA FALLS
Richard S. Gonzi, 66, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on March 21, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Akron on March 21, 1945, to the late Steven and Elizabeth Gonzi, Dick was a lifetime Cuyahoga Falls resident. He graduated from Archbishop Hoban High School in 1963. Dick was a member of the US Air Force and served in the Vietnam War. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the American Legion Charles Faust Post #281. Dick enjoyed model trains, classic car shows, fishing, coaching his kids in sports, computers, Craigslist, and was a Jerry Springer fan. Most of all, Dick loved his family and was a great father and papa.
In addition to his parents , Dick was preceded in death by his sister Frances Wittman. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara, whom he wed on August 9, 1969; children Stephanie (Tony) Nickles, Julieann (Jonathan) Dreher, Jacqueline (Joshua) Mullet, Nicholas Gonzi, and Patricia Gonzi; and grandchildren Brannon, Lyla, and Jakob.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday March 23, from 5-8 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home MCGOWAN-REID & SANTOS CHAPEL (at 3rd St., one block north of Portage Trail in the Falls). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Thomas McCann on Thursday at 10:00 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1905 Portage Trail in Cuyahoga Falls. Interment with full military honors will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Charles Faust Post # 281 1601 Front St. Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221.
