Obituary of Maria Szewczyk

Maria (Onysko) Szewczyk, 87, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011. She was born in the Ukraine and came to the United States and Akron area in 1952. She was also a member of Holy Ghost Ukrainian Byzantine Rite Catholic Church since 1952. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephan; infant daughter, Sofia; parents, Alexander and Anna Onysko; one sister; and two brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Anna (Gary) Gilbert of Vermilion, Ohio; son, Joseph (Krystyna) Szewczyk of Akron; granddaughter, Lauren (Brad) Gilbert-Smith of Atlanta, Georgia; and grandson, Yuri Szewczyk of Akron. Funeral service will be held Thursday, 10:30 a.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron and at 11 a.m. at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Byzantine Rite Catholic Church. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home where a Parastas service will be held at 5:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church.
