Obituary of Frederick E. Owen
Frederick E. Owen Sr., age 70, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at home on Saturday, March 19, 2011.
Born in Massachusetts, he lived most of his life in Akron, OH.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Thelma Owen, twin brother Frank and his "Kaye Marie", wife of 39 ½ years. He is survived by his sisters Thelma (Harry) Davis and Laura (Al) Rocci; children Tamara (Scott) Sturm, Beth (Tony) Hamric, Frederick Jr. (Kristy) Owen, and Martin (Erin) Owen; Grandchildren, Stacy Renee, Robert Jr., Payton, Chayton, Chase, Daxen, and Spencer; and many close friends that he held dear to his heart.
Fred's family meant the world to him. While he only had four children by blood, he had eight children by choice. He bonded with each of his children's spouses in his own special way. His grandchildren amazed him. He loved to watch them grow and would brag about them at every given chance. For many years, Fred had a second family at Hamad Tire. He worked there on and off for over 20 years. The Hamad family always held a special place in his heart. For the past 4 years, Fred resided at Fairway Tower where the management, staff and his neighbors looked out for him.
We will forever have our childhood memories of family camping trips to Lake Chemung, Cedar Point, and the Jelly Stone Parks; the many times he would holler "Line Up!" and we would stand in order by age where he would tell us "I didn't go from this to where I am today"; the times he would sit in his recliner and sing Dean Martin; nights at Whispers Lounge and Town Crier singing karaoke; our daily phone calls, Saturday coffee, weekly lunches, and the infamous prime rib dinners that made his neighbors mouths water as they walked through the hallway outside his apartment. While we are not able to hold him, we will forever hold these memories dear to our heart. We were lucky to have him in our lives as long as we did and would not trade a single moment. Now we ask that his friends, in his honor, pour yourself a glass of Scotch on the rocks, fix a nice thick filet, sauté some mushrooms, skip the veggies and raise your glass to one of the most amazing Fathers ever. We love you Dad and enjoy dancing with Mom in heaven!!
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, 10 a.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron. Fr. Thomas McCann officiating. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends TODAY, 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. (Anthony Funeral Homes, 330-724-1281, www.anthonyfh.com)
