Obituary of Kenneth August Henkel

Kenneth August Henkel, 75, passed away on February 10, 2011 at Akron General Medical Center. Born in Sommerville, NJ on May 17, 1935 to the late Walter & Ida Mae Henkel, Ken had been an Akron resident since 1944. He was a 1953 graduate of Ellet High School, where he served as the president of the Student Council and was a member of the district championship basketball team. He graduated from the University of Akron with a BS and an MBA in Industrial Management. He was employed as a computer specialist for B.F. Goodrich and later retired as a financial advisor from A.G. Edwards & Sons. He served as a member of the US Army Reserve. He was a very active member of the St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Mogadore, where he was also a member of the R.B.O. He was a 25 year member of the Parish Council, and was also past-president. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Olga; daughter and son-in-law Michele & Craig Bashein of Hunting Valley, OH; grandchildren Alec, Lauren, and Kyle Bashein; brother Walter (Maxine) Henkel of Ellet and sister Catherine Lyle of Cuyahoga Falls; sister-in-law Joanne Henkel of West Covina, CA. On behalf of Ken, his family would like to offer their most sincere thanks to all of the nurses and doctors affiliated with the Akron General Medical Center that have treated their husband & father throughout the years. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3-6 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home KUCKO-ANTHONY-KERTESZ CHAPEL, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron, where a Parastas will take place at 5:30 pm. A funeral service will take place on Monday at 11:00 am at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church 755 S. Cleveland Ave. in Mogadore, where Ken will lie in state for one hour prior to the service.
