Obituary of Vernon Lee Ivey
Vernon Lee Ivey, Sr., born February 19, 1938 went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at the age of 72. Vernon was a wonderful and loving man who cared deeply for his family. He was a life-long resident of the Akron area. Vernon was affected by polio since the age of 15, but you would not have known it unless you saw him. He was very active in the community and inspired so many people; you couldn't help but notice his strength and courage. You sometimes would forget he was in a wheelchair. He retired from Babcock & Wilcox as a Payroll supervisor with 25 years service.
He was preceded in death by his parents Luther and Climmie Ivey; siblings Mildred Scowcroft, Charles Ivey and Eugene Ivey; and is survived by his wife Daisy of 45 years; sons Vernon (Shelly) Ivey Jr., Wayne (Wanda) Shultz, and Brad Shultz; 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; brother Kenny (Barbara) Ivey; 3 stepbrothers and 2 stepsisters and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 8, 2011 from 4 to 6 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko -Anthony- Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. (Please note new address) immediately followed by funeral services at 6:00 pm. Cremation will take place followed by private interment of the ashes.
