Obituary of Mary Elaine Papp

Mary Elaine (Coffey) Papp "Elaine" Elaine Papp, 84, passed away in the morning on February 4, 2011. Born on December 25, 1926, Elaine was raised by her late mother Mary Susko Coffey in the Russian Orthodox Catholic community in East Akron. After graduating from East High School Elaine attended the University of Akron where she was an active member of Phi Mu Sorority. While a cheerleader at the university she met and married the love of her life, the late Joseph M. Papp in 1948. Her husband, Joe, and their three sons became the focus of her life. Elaine became an avid follower of sports that lasted her entire life. After living in the Akron area for the first twelve years of their marriage she helped navigate and settle the family through moves to Los Angeles, California, Lima, Peru and Bogota, Colombia following Joe's career with B. F. Goodrich Company. After living in other locales, Elaine returned to the Akron area with her husband Joe to be closer to family and friends. She was an active member of local Orthodox Catholic churches wherever she lived, but always considered herself a lifetime member of St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, now located in Mogadore. She always gravitated back to the area and church of her youth and spent time volunteering and participating in many church activities. Her health problems in the past several years kept her from being as active as she would have liked. Elaine was preceded in death by her mother, Mary, and her husband, Joe. She is survived by her sons Gregory (Glenabah) of Albuquerque N.M., Michael (Louise) of Green, and John (Terri) of Lake Township; grandchildren, Christine, Shauna, Jennifer, Erin, Dylan, Marisa, Joseph, Christine, Jennifer, Tony and Kate; great-grandchildren, Julia, Jensen and Sophia. Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Parastas service at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St., Akron, Ohio 44301, and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Mogadore, Ohio where funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. following calling hours.
