Obituary of Arthur Edgar Shipley

Arthur Edgar Shipley, Jr., 64, passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2011. He was born in Akron and retired from Aircraft Braking Systems after 41 years of service. Mr. Shipley was a military veteran serving in the United States Air Force. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling. He was a member of the Greentown V.F.W., Mogadore Moose, Son's of Herman, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Prestwick Country Club. Special thank you to the entire staff at Akron City/Summa Hospital. He was preceded in death by parents, Arthur E., Sr. and Cecelia J. (Wolzak) Shipley; and is survived by daughter, Dawn (Philip) Hlass; son, Arthur Shipley, III.; longtime loving companion, Linda Herchek; granddaughter, Avery Hlass; and mother of the children, Mary Ann Shipley. Funeral service will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron. Fr. Michael B. Smith officiating. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
