Obituary of Ergene Marnelos
Ergene Marnelos, 76, died January 11, 2011.
She was born in Akron and was a teacher retiring from the Cloverleaf School System. She was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church and had been president of the Orthodox Christian Women's Association of Akron (OCW) and secretary of the Christian Orthodox Council of Akron (COCA). While her achievements were great, her heart was greater. Ergenes favorite things in life were her love of education, her church and times spent with family and friends. Ergene was a loving aunt and her niece and nephew were the center of her life. Ergene loved to laugh. Her selfless acts of giving and her wonderful sense of life were gifts to all that knew her. Ergene never went without a smile. She will be forever in our hearts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lydia (Vargo) Marnelos; and brother, Chris Marnelos. She is survived by her niece, Mimi (Moises) Morales and their children; and nephew, Christopher (Kristie) Marnelos and their children.
Funeral service will be held Monday, 10:30 a.m. at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church where Ergene will lie in state one hour prior to service. Fr. Louis Mahshie officiating. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday, 2 to 6 p.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron.
