Obituary of Athanas Tom Vani
Athanas (Tom) Vani, 76, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, January 5, 2011.
He was born in Akron and was a graduate of East High School in Akron. He was a military veteran serving in the U.S. Army. Mr. Vani was a welder and retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company after over 40 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion and loved fishing, woodworking & Tinkering. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends at Catawba Island.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Teofan and Maria; and siblings, Nicholas, Lazar, Conna, John and Christie. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Dorothy; son and daughter-in-law, John and Bridget Vani; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Vani Wright and Darrel Wright; grandchildren, Alex, Will, Peter and Henry Vani and Ella and Serena Wright; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. at the Grandview United Methodist Church, 2315 Phelps Ave. (corner of 23rd St. & Phelps Ave.) in Cuyahoga Falls. Rev. James McKenzie officiating. Interment at Chestnut Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, 6 to 8 p.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home MCGOWAN-REID & SANTOS CHAPEL, 247 Stow Ave. (one block North of Portage Trail at 3rd St.) in Cuyahoga Falls and Saturday, one hour prior to the service at the church.
