Obituary of Edith Thompson

Edith Thompson, 104, passed away Monday, December 6, 2010 at Stratford Commons Care Center in Glenwillow, Ohio. She was born in Darrowville, Ohio and was a Cuyahoga Falls resident for most of her adult life. Mrs. Thompson was a 1925 graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School and earned a teaching certificate from Kent State Normal School. She was a Health & Physical Education teacher with the Cuyahoga Falls School System retiring in 1957. She was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church of Cuyahoga Falls, Order of Eastern Star and the Darrow Street Grange. Family was important to her, and she always looked forward to the Richardson Family picnics and Christmas parties. Her now grown grandchildren have fond memories of her making indoor tents, taking siestas, and making gourmet sandwiches with them. She loved to play bridge and loved watching sports, especially the Ohio State Buckeyes. She was preceded in death by husband, Eric J. in 1985.; infant daughter, Kay Jean Thompson; infant great-granddaughter, Peace A. Young; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Leonard and Mildred Richardson, Theodore and Evelyn Richardson and Donald and Addie Richardson; and sister and brothers-in-law, Margery and Clarence Snyder, and Leland Dolezal. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Colleen Thompson; sister, Winifred Dolezal; grandchildren, Daniel (Andrea) Thompson, Timothy Thompson (fiancee, Heather Meely) and Patricia (Cyle) Young; great-grandchildren, Carver and Cyleigh-Anne Young and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home McGowan-Reid & Santos Chapel, 247 Stow Ave. (one block North of Portage Trail at 3rd St.) in Cuyahoga Falls. Interment at Maplelawn Cemetery in Stow. The family will receive friends Sunday, 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Peace Bear Project in memory of her first great-grandchild who was stillborn, 1731 East Main St. Springfield, Ohio 45503.
