Obituary of Birdie Elizabeth Andrick
Birdie Elizabeth Andrick, 96, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, October 14, 2010. She was born in 1914 in Philippi,WV, to Jacob and Pearl Daugherty. She was married to W. Virl Andrick, Sr. for 73 years. Together they raised five children and two grandchildren.
Birdie instituted the federal lunch program for 35 schools in Barbour County, W VA, during the late 1930's. After all her children were in school, in the 1950's, she served as President of the Falls East Side Garden Club and Chaplin of the Sill School PTA. In the 1960's she worked for the Falls HS Cafeteria and later, for the Fallsview Mental Health Center. Birdie was instrumental in the formation and development of the Falls Music Association. Later, she was elected President of the Akron Area Hiram College Women's Club.
Birdie and Virl joined the Falls First Chrisian Church in 1945. She served there as a deaconess and a VBS teacher and participated in the Christian Women Fellowship. She was devoted to her family, her church, and her friends. She coupled a loving personality and a generous spirit with strength and determination. She had the great gift of hospitality. She loved flowers, and gardening, and was known for making fantastic fudge. Birdie loved her name, and she loved to sing alone and with family and friends, especially at Christmas and all family gatherings,.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons David and Ronald, and sisters Emma Proudfoot and Evelyn Petty. She is survived by two sons, Theodore (Kathleen)Andrick - Heath, OH and W.Virl Andrick, Jr. (Joe Arbo) -NYC, and a daughter, Deborah (David) Stout, Cambridge,OH; also, six grandchildren: Andrea (John) King-Stow; Amy (Albert ) Albright-Akron; David Scott (Jody) Andrick-Algonquin, Illinois; Laura (Chris Frieidner) - Granville, Seth Stout, Delaware; and Sarah Stout, Columbus; daughter-in-law;Winnie (Howard) Sorenson-Utah.; great grandchildren, Ryan,Anna, Emily, Chrisitan, Devon, Katherine, Johnathon, Joanna, Rachel, and Mayce; great great grandchild: Jason.
The family is especially thankful for the loving care her granddaughter Amy gave. Additionally, is grateful to Debbie Prachar, Jonie Mares, Terry Keener, Carol Wessinger, the Aguirres, Donna Stockman, Gail Lindsey, Steve Anderson, The Hivelys, Clarence Martin, and all the loving members of the First Christian Church.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3-7 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home MCGOWAN-REID & SANTOS CHAPEL (at 3rd St., one block north of Portage Trail in the Falls). A funeral service will take place on Monday, October 18, at noon at the Cuyahoga Falls First Christian Church, where the family will again receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Pastor Gail Lindsey officiating.
