Obituary of Katharine Powers
Katharine Powers, 84, passed away on October 6, at Akron City Hospital.
Born in Cowan, WV on May 28, 1926 to the late Donnie and Mary Yerkey, Katharine had been an Akron area resident for most of her life. She was a member of the Disabled American Veterans-Ladies Auxiliary, where she served as district & unit commander. Katharine was a wonderful mother who devoted her time to raising her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents Katharine was preceded in death by her husband Coleman in 2004, daughter Janice Safran in May of this year, as well as 5 sisters. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Dianne and Glen Phelps of Akron and Patricia and Thomas Ingram of Akron; sister Ada Horvath of Akron and son-in-law Robert Safran Sr. of Parma; grandchildren James (Kimberly) Knisely II and Poppy (Chris) Moritz; great-grandchildren Rebecca, Terry, Haley, Alecia, Jennifer, and Emily; her special cat Shadow and her grand-dog Abbey.
Cremation has taken place. A private inurnment of ashes will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
