Obituary of Dorothy Holzapfel

Dorothy Holzapfel celebrated her 86th birthday September 5. She went home to be with the Lord and her beloved husband, Pete, on Friday, September 24, 2010. Born in Akron in 1924 to Henry and Katie Petz, Dorothy grew up on Sumner Street with her siblings Henry and Katherine, all predeceasing her. It was there that she met Pete, the love of her life and husband of 50+ years. Dorothy and Pete made their home and reared their family in the Kenmore area. Their children are: Mark and Margaret Holzapfel, Gerry and Ann Holzapfel, Laura and Greg Megois, and Linda and Jim (deceased) McKinney. She cherished her eight grandchildren and great-grandson. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was a career homemaker and would cook many specialties in her kitchen. She never missed the evening news. Having a keen sense of humor, she always loved a good laugh. For many years Dorothy swam at the Barberton Natatorium and had lunch with her friends at the Kenmore Senior Citizen Center. Dorothy loved animals and always had a dog or cat keeping her company. Canada, Florida, and Alaska were among her favorite travels, though the beloved summer family vacations were on the Boardwalk in Wildwood, New Jersey. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5-8 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home KUCKO-ANTHONY-KERTESZ CHAPEL, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park.
