Obituary of Bernardine Elizabeth Ruof
Bernardine Elizabeth Ruof, returned to God Sunday, 9/19/2010 evening at 5:30PM after a valiant battle with congestive heart failure at the age of 86. Her husband Edgar and daughter Barbara were at her side when she died.
She was born on November 15, 1923 in Hydro, Oklahoma and was baptized at St. Patrick's Mission Church that same year on Christmas Day. She has been a lifelong devoted Catholic. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Edgar; daughters Barbara Emery, Joan Caruso (John), Constance Bradner (Richard) and Julie Ruof; grandchildren Becky Shaver, John Durkin, Janeen Scorzelli and 5 great-grand children; special friend Janet (Greenie) Antal. Her sister Johanna Ross, resides in Sacramento, Ca. Grandchild Christopher Glover pre-deceased in 1972. Bernardine was a true hero of World War II helping America by being a "Rosie the Riveter". Her specialty was inspecting DC-3 engine cowlings. During the war, she was smitten by a young soon to be NAVY engineer Edgar who worked on the electronics of NAVY planes. They were married during the war. After the war, she returned to America four lovely daughters. They moved from Oklahoma to Manchester, Ohio in 1954. She began working at Firestone Tire and Rubber Company to help support the family in 1960 until 1980. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Frances de Sales in Coventry and made her home in Manchester during these formative years until 2003.
Bernardine and Edgar now make their home in North Canton, OH.
CONFIRMING ON MONDAY MORNING Rite of Christian Burial will be held at Queen of Heaven Church in Uniontown, OH on Thursday. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 on Wednesday at Anthony & Biscay Funeral Home 34178 Massillon Road, Uniontown.
