Obituary of Samuel Orlando

Samuel Orlando, 72, was welcomed into our heavenly fathers loving arms on Sunday, September 19, 2010, after a lengthy illness. He was born December 13, 1937 and was a lifelong resident of Akron. He retired from Akron Foundry after 30 years of service. He had a love for boating, fishing, woodworking, music, and his grandchildren's activities. He belonged to the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Mark Heffernan Division where he made many lifelong friends. He was a parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Sam was known for his humor and fun spirit. Preceded in death by his parents, Ellen and Jasper; and brother, Frank; he is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia, who was also his childhood sweetheart and best friend; sisters, Marian (Pete) Basone and Angie Hulgin of Florida; five children, Joseph (Doreen) Orlando, Debra (Gary) Battistuta, Michael (Niki) Orlando, Kimberly (Jeff) Calvert, and Lori Orlando. He also leaves behind his 14 grandchildren, Samuel Bond of Florida; Aaron, Eric, Stephanie Orlando; Gary, Michael, and Tony Battistuta; Boman and Bronson Orlando; Patricia, Jessica, and Andrew Calvert; Randy and Samuel Smith, and one great-grandson, Kaden Battistuta. Also leaving behind mother-in-law, Juanita Loftus; many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; cousins, nieces, and nephews; and childhood friends, Leo and Eloise Stalter, Frank Harpster, Tom Lawless, and Ann Blondin. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. and at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment at Northlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday, 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
