Obituary of John Desimone

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- John M. Desimone, Sr., 85, passed on May 9, at the Atlantic Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, N.J. Born in Akron on March 15, 1925 to the late Casimiro and Maria Desimone, John was a resident of Akron for most of his life. He worked as a mechanical engineer for Goodyear Aerospace, until his retirement in 1988 with 38 years of service. He was a longtime affiliate of St. Paul Catholic Church and a 50 year Forth Degree Knights of Columbus, in Akron. John served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during World War II earning a Purple Heart. He was a 1942 graduate of Garfield High School and received his Bachelors of Science in Engineering from Akron University. John was also a longtime member of the Sons of Italy. John was a passionate golfer who dreamed of one day ``hitting it big' at the blackjack table or golfing a perfect game on the green. It's easy to remember him as someone who loved the sweeter things in life with his sugar covered hand enjoying cookies from the cookie jar. John will always be remembered as a charismatic man not only serving his country as a soldier, but his family and friends as a brother, father, and son. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son, John Jr. in 2007 and sister, Lucy Usberghi. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Josephine Vaccaro; daughter, Joan and son-in-law Louie Isabella of Scotia, N.Y.; grandchildren Christopher Isabella and wife Ting-Ho Su of Princeton, N.J., Sean Isabella of Boston, Mass., and Michael Isabella of Scotia, N.Y. John is also survived by his sister, Gracie Usberghi and brother-in-law Eugene, Frank and Linda Vaccaro of Akron, Fran and Rocco Guistino of Akron, Joanne and Joe Finelli of Florida; many wonderful cousins, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Saturday, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home KUCKO-ANTHONY-KERTESZ CHAPEL, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Matt Ischay on Saturday at 12 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 750 S. Main St. in Akron. Entombment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Samaritan Hospice, 5 Eves Dr. Suite 300, Marlton NJ 08053-3101.
