Obituary of Harold Raymond Johnson

Harold Raymond Johnson Jr. Harold Raymond Johnson Jr., 82, went home to be with the Lord on May 8, at Akron City Hospital. Born in Akron on January 26, 1928 to the late Harold Sr. and Fern Johnson, Ray had been a lifetime area resident. He was the owner or Ray's barbershop, where he worked as a barber until 1974, when he became a security guard for Alsides Inc. Ray served his country for 8 years during WWII and the Korean Conflict as a member of the US Navy. He always said, 'I traveled so far west in the Navy that I ended up in the East." Ray was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church. He enjoyed fishing, reading westerns, cars, and getting his grandkids in trouble. Ray is survived by his sons Carl (Lorraine) of Green and Christopher of Akron; dear friend Eleanor Johnson; brothers Ronald (Bernie) of Sandusky and Donald (Diane) of Akron; sisters Barbara (Charles) Morgan of Tallmadge, Marilyn (Jim) Ball of Akron, and Shirley Hazelett (Gary) of Akron; grandchildren Arikka Johnson, Carl D. Johnson II, Natalie Stoltz, and Nicholas Johnson; great-grandchildren Alexys and Bryce Stoltz and Grayson Johnson. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at the Hospice of Summa and the Acute Palliative Care Unit for the compassionate care that was given to their father. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5-8 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home KUCKO-ANTHONY-KERTESZ CHAPEL, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron, where a Parastas will be held at 7:30 pm. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00 am at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Mogadore, where Ray will lie in state for one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ray's memory may be made to the Hospice of Summa 444 N.
