Obituary of George J. Zelenka
George J. Zelenka, 90, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2012.
He was born in Akron and was a lifetime resident of the area. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and the Hungarian-American Club. Mr. Zelenka was a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service retiring after 37 years of service and was a veteran of the United States Armed Forces serving during World War II where he was a recipient of the Purple Heart among other recognitions. He was an avid golfer, dog lover and he enjoyed all of his grandchildren, gardening and walking his dog.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Angela Brandl; and parents, Joseph and Barbara (Talley) Zelenka. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth "Betty" (Treml) Zelenka; daughter, Judy (John) Brandl; sons, Joe, Jim and John (Jenny) Zelenka; and grandchildren, Kim, Jeff and Nick Brandl and Steven and Shana Zelenka.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, 9:30 a.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St., Akron followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 4019 Manchester Rd. Akron, Ohio 44319.
