Obituary of Marie Zivick

Our beautiful mother, Marie Zivick passed into our Lord's Kingdom on October 1, 2012 surrounded by her family. Mom was born in Yugoslavia, and emigrated to Canada at the age of 5 with her parents. She grew up in Toronto, a city which she loved, and grew into a lovely young woman even being crowned a beauty queen! After graduation from high school she began her working career as a secretary for Shell Oil and Ford Motor Companies. While visiting family members in Akron, Ohio, Mom met her future husband, Steve. After their wedding in Akron, Mom became a naturalized U.S. citizen and began working at Goodyear. After staying home for a few years to raise her children, Mom, always an extremely hard worker, started her own successful catering business. Mom's cooking and baking skills were exceptional! Mom worked alongside our Dad as a founding member of St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church in Akron. For several years, while Dad was president of the church, Mom served as president of the women's group, Srpska Zenska Zadruga. She also had a lovely voice and sang in the church choir. Mom enjoyed her many years of volunteer service at Akron City Hospital. She was a 60 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Ne-Hta Chapter #500. She loved and was proud of her native culture and if there was a Serbian Orchestra playing, she was singing along or dancing the Kolos! Mom loved spending time with and cooking for her family and no one ever left her home hungry. She loved to read, crochet, knit, travel, and play cards and other games at which she expected to win! Mom's greatest joy and pride were her children and their families. Mom was preceded in death by her parents, Vuka and Zoran Stepanov; and her husband, Steve. She is survived by her 4 children, Rick and Mary Zivic, Gordon and Pam Zivick, Sharon and Mark Aumont, and Jeff and Ana Zivick; 10 grandchildren, Alex, Marina, Eric, Ryan, Scott, Merrily (Jeremy), Kerri, Jim, Paul and Caitlin; and 2 great-grandchildren, Grace and Kate Kallio. She is also survived by very special and loving friend, Al Donaldson and his family. Funeral service will be held SATURDAY, October 6, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church, 2552 Pickle Rd. in Akron where Mom will lie in state one hour prior to service. Fr. Milan Pajic officiating. Entombment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends THURSDAY, October 4, 2012 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron where a Parastas service will be held at 8 p.m. Donations may be made to the church or to the Humane Society. (Anthony, Akron, 330-724-1281, www.anthonyfh.com)
