Obituary of Michael P. Mitchin
Michael P. Mitchin, 89, passed away Dec. 7, 2009. He was born Sept. 11, 1920 in Akron. He served in the US Army from 1942 to 1945 and was stationed in England. He worked for Goodyear Aerospace and was transferred to Goodyear Research from where he retired in 1983 after 40 years of service. Mike was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church beginning at St. John the Baptist in Akron. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales for 59 years and served on the financial committee and as a Eucharistic Minister, as well as involvement in all church and school functions.
He is survived by his wife Pearl (Miller) Mitchin who he married on June 22, 1946. Also surviving are children, Michaeleen Lordi (Jerry), Robert Mitchin (Maggie), Christine Dubovec (Marty), 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.
Mike was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to so many. He will be greatly missed by all.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 to 8 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home, Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 9:15 am at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Interment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mike's memory may be made to St. Francis de Sales Catholic School, 4009 Manchester Rd., Akron OH 44319.
