Obituary of Helen Adamson

Helen Adamson went to the Lord on December 11, 2008 at the age of 85. Born April 25, 1923 and raised in Akron, she truly loved her family, especially her little sister, Trish, who adored and followed her everywhere. A very bright student, Helen graduated m Kenmore High School at the age of 16, then accepted employment at Firestone Tire to help her family during the war years. There she met the love of her life, Paul and together they built their house where they raised their family. Eventually she enrolled at Akron University but children and economics combined to leave her a few credit hours short of graduating with honors. Later she worked as a secretary to the principal of Robinson Elementary School and eventually to the Dean at the Akron University School of Law. Following Paul's retirement and relocation to Florida Helen served at the University of Florida where her son Bob attended and played varsity baseball. She was conscientious, loyal and tireless, both as an employee and as a lifelong fan of her children. Helen was an excellent swimmer, bowler, and all-around athlete. She taught herself to water ski at age 35 and was still getting up on one ski at age 70. She believed in God, America and later in life, the Florida Gators. Those around her were blessed by her eternal optimism and cheerfulness. She taught her children by example to be kind and considerate, to pray and to respect others. You couldn't win and argument with her as she was very bright and never wrong. She would do anything for you. She was a champion speller, sang like an angel, and greeted everyone friend or stranger with smile. To know her was to love her. Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Paul; her parents Francis and Martha Hannley; brother Vincent Hannley; and sisters Martha Bertka and Dorothy Connell. She is survived by sister Patricia (Trish) Lundstrum (Bud); children: Delores Hunt (Al), William Adamson (Deborah), Paul Adamson (Carol) and Robert Adamson (Angie); grandchildren: Laura Hunt, Douglas Hunt, Melissa Zeisig, Jennifer Adamson, Jeffrey Adamson, Paul Adamson, Rob Adamson, and Michael Adamson; five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She will be fondly remembered and dearly missed. The family warmly thanks the staff at Pebble Creek Nursing Home and VSN Hospice for their loving care. Friends may call Sunday from 5-7 at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. Funeral services will be held Monday 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by Mass of the Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St Francis De Sales Catholic Church.
