Obituary of Catherine J. Evelyn

Cathy Evelyn, 78, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Akron. Cathy was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, volunteered for ICC Altar Society, Bereavement Luncheon Committee, and IBH. She graduated from Kenmore High School and beauty school. She was the owner and operator of Charm Center Beauty Salon, which was started by her sister, Rosemary. Cathy ran the salon for over 25 years, where most of her customers became her dear friends. She was a strong, independent woman before it was "fashionable" to be so. Cathy was a caring person. Her generous and unselfish nature should be an example to us all. Cathy was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; parents, Louis and Maria (Bertolini) Germano; brothers, Fulvio, Ribby, Leno, and Floyd; sister, Rosemary. She is survived by sisters; Jo (Ralph) Spevere of Massillon, Angie Unger of Wisconsin; friends, especially her dear friend, Arlette. Her many nieces and nephews, who regard Aunt Cathy as a second mother, will miss her very much. Cathy's family would like to thank all of her care-givers at Summa Health System and Hospice of Summa, especially her niece, Sandy Germano. All of your help and kindness is appreciated. Cremation has taken place. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2101 16th St. SW (corner of 16th St. SW and Battles Ave.) in Akron. PROCESSION WILL FORM AT THE CHURCH. Interment of cremains at Holy Cross Cemetery immediately following Mass. The family will receive friends Wednesday, 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the church.
