Obituary of Zelda G. Shafer

Zelda G. Shafer, 87 of Cuyahoga Falls, went home to be with the Lord on August 10, 2008. Born in Melton, West Virginia to Oat Ward, Sr. and Icie Ward, she was the oldest of 11 children. Zelda was a homemaker and loved to work in her flower beds and always had a bountiful garden that she shared with neighbors and family. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Rodney; brothers, Oat Jr., Clyde and Kyle; and sisters, Doris, Nadine, Ruth, Helen and Zelma. She is survived by sons, Edward (Shirley) and Royd (Charlotte) Shafer; brothers, Clyne (Helen) and Claude (Vera) Ward; grandchildren, Shirley (John) Wilkerson, Kenneth (Mandy), Roy (Rachael) and Todd (Kellie) Shafer; 9 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home McGowan-Reid & Santos Chapel, 247 Stow Ave. (at 3rd St., one block North of Portage Trail) in Cuyahoga Falls. Pastors Kenneth L. Tharp and Joe Ellis officiating. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
