Obituary of Alex Papp
Alex Papp, 91, passed away on July 27, 2008.
He was born December 14, 1916 in Akron, Ohio and was a lifetime resident of
this community. He was a graduate of Kenmore High School. Alex was a U.S.
Army World War II Veteran who served in Europe and rose to the rank of
Master Sergeant. He retired from Firestone Tire and Rubber Company of Akron,
Ohio with over 33 years of service. He spent a great deal of his free time
as both a coach and an official for area football and basketball teams most
notably as a member of the Catholic Youth Organization. He had a genuine
love for sports including football, basketball and baseball at all levels.
He also enjoyed working cross word puzzles and was a former member of the
Knights of Columbus.
Alex was a loving father, husband and son. He was preceded in death by
parents, John and Elizabeth Papp; wife of 62 years, Jean (nee Corbett); twin
brother, Anthony; brother, Nick; and sister, Elizabeth. He leaves sons,
Alexander (Michelle) and Michael (Bobbie); and daughters, Daphne Bordas,
Cindy Ahmed and Mary (Bernie) Kamlowsky. He will also be sadly missed by his
many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, 11 a.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home
Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. (PLEASE NOTE NEW LOCATION) in
Akron. Cremation to follow. The family will receive friends Wednesday, 5 to
7 p.m. at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Catholic Youth
