Obituary of George P. George
George, 85, was called home to the Lord on July 26, 2008.
George was a loving husband, father and grandfather (papou). He will be remembered for his great sense of humor. He loved telling jokes to his many friends especially the Akron and Florida breakfast clubs (skatoparea). George was very proud of his Greek heritage. He was a member of the Akron Annunciation and the Sarastoa St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Churches. In his younger years, he lovingly served the Annunciation Church as treasurer, sang in the choir and the male chorus and taught the youth Greek Dancers. George was proud of his country and served in the Navy during World War II. He retired from Ohio Edison after 35 years of service.
George is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; five children and eleven grandchildren; sons, Paul (Barbara Haintl) and Thomas (Sara); daughters, Victoria (Douglas) Lund, Katherine (Kenneth) Harlan and Elaine (Delvin) Pickett; grandchildren, Luke and Jacob George, Demetra and Thomas Lund, Timothy, Nicole, Lidiya and Andrew Harlan, and Bryce, Alliya and Zachary Pickett; he also leaves sister, Mary (Clyde) Bess; brothers, Nicholas and Peter (Sophie); many nieces and nephews; and a multitude of wonderful friends.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church where George will lie in state one hour prior to service. Fr. Jerry Hall officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday, 5 to 8 p.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. (PLEASE NOTE NEW LOCATION) in Akron where a Trisagion service will be held at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund, 7671 North Lockwood Ridge Rd.
