DOROTHY GRUITY, 94, DIED SATURDAY, MAY 17, 2008. SHE WAS A LIFE RESIDENT OF AKRON.
MRS. GRUITY WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER HUSBAND JOHN PETER; AND IS SURVIVED BY SON,
STEVEN OF AKRON; DAUGHTER-IN-LAW, DOROTHY DARLENE; THREE GRANDCHILDREN, DEBORAH (BRIAN), MICHELE (DAN) AND MICHAEL JOHN; GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN, JULIA, JOSHUA, JENNA, MIKHALA AND NICHOLAS; DAUGHTER, AMELIA AND SON-IN-LAW, DAVID OF NEW YORK CITY.
SHE WAS THE PAST PRESIDENT OF SUMMIT COUNTY YOUNG WOMEN'S DEMOCRATIC
CLUB AND AKRON WOMEN'S DEMOCRATIC CLUB. SHE WAS ONE OF THE FIRST TWO
WOMEN TO BE APPOINTED AS A SUMMIT COUNTY DEPUTY SHERIFF IN THE STATE OF
OHIO. SHE SERVED AS A CHURCH SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT AT ST. DEMITRIUS
SERBIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH AND LATER AS THE SUPERINTENDENT AT ST. NICHOLAS
RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH AND WAS A MEMBER OF THE SERBIAN NATIONAL
FEDERATION. SHE WAS A VOLUNTEER GRAY LADY AT ST. THOMAS HOSPITAL FOR
MANY YEARS. SHE WAS A GIRL SCOUT LEADER AT VORIS SCHOOL AND ROSWELL
KENT JR HIGH. SHE ALSO SERVED AS A PAST PRESIDENT OF P.T.A. AT ROSWELL KENT JR
HIGH. SHE WAS A BOARD OFFICER MEMBER OF THE EASTERN ORTHODOX
CATECHETICAL ASSOCIATION AT MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY AND A MEMBER OF
THE AMERICAN BUSINESS WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION BEACON CHAPTER. SHE WAS EMPLOYED AS A JURY COMMISSIONER OF SUMMIT COUNTY COMMON PLEAS COURT.
FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD FRIDAY AT 11 A.M. AT ST. NICHOLAS ORTHODOX CHURCH IN MOGADORE WHERE THE BODY WILL LIE IN STATE ONE HOUR PRIOR TO THE SERVICE. VERY REV. FATHER NICHOLAS WYSLUTSKY OFFICIATING. INTERMENT AT LAKEWOOD CEMETERY. THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS AND RELATIVES THURSDAY, 4 TO 8 P.M. AT THE ANTHONY AND BISCAN FUNERAL HOME, 4178 MASSILLON ROAD (CORNER OF MASSILLON AND STEESE RDS. IN GREEN) WHERE A PARASTAS SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT 7:30 P.M. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, THE FAMILY REQUESTS THAT DONATIONS BE MADE TO THE ST. NICHOLAS CHURCH MEMORIAL FUND, 755 S. CLEVELAND AVE. MOGADORE, OHIO 44260 OR TO A CHARITY OF YOUR CHOICE.
