Obituary of David R. McCormick

David R. McCormick, 50, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at his home. David was born March 26, 1962 to Ralph and Jane (Walsh) McCormick in Akron and had been a Green resident for most of his life. A 1980 graduate of Green High School, he received his Bachelor of Education from the University of Akron in 1985. David was a teacher at Portage Lakes Career Center for nine years and at Coventry High School for the past 18 years. A well liked and respected teacher, he will be remembered as a sports announcer for Coventry, as the bowling coach (with a championship) and for his tradition of handing out Kennedy half dollars to everyone. David will be missed by his beloved parents, Jane and Ralph; brothers, Daniel, his wife, Beth and their children, Shane and Dana, and Dennis, his wife, Kathleen and their children, Mellory and Amanda; uncle, Jack (Jeanette) McCormick; and aunt, June (Tom) Fitz. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, 9:30 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends TODAY from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Anthony and Son Funeral Home, 4178 Massillon Road (corner of Massillon and Steese Roads in Green; entrance off Steese).
