Obituary of Anna M. Bankas
Anna M. Bankas, 96, passed away Friday January 11, 2008. She was born May 10, 1911 in Vukovar, Yugoslavia. After WWI her family moved to Austria-Hungary where she lived until moving to Akron at the age of 16. Anna retired from B.F. Goodrich Tire & Rubber Co. with 45 years service. She was a lifetime member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Anna volunteered at the Akron Children's Home and St. Thomas Hospital. Miss Bankas was preceded in death by parents Anna and Michael Sekermestrovich; sisters Olga, Helen, Kathyren; brothers Rudy, Edward; and brother-in-law Ken Pitcher. She is survived by sister Alice Pitcher; brothers Albert, John and William; niece and nephew Sandra and Richard Hendren; and special great nieces and nephews. Nana, you brought us laughter and love for many years and we will treasure your memory in our hearts forever. If Anna were to do her own obituary she would write "I just lived and died and finally made it." The family will receive friends Wednesday 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. (PLEASE NOTE NEW ADDRESS). Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
