Dusty, When I was young, I read a book about Mr. Arfons setting the land speed record. It was a tremendous joy when many years later, I meekly approached him at a pull in Springfield MO (I think) in 1993. They were doing a television documentary of him and I was moved at his gentile quiet nature, smile and his willingness to make time for me. At the Tractor Pulling convention during which he was inducted into the Hall of Fame, I collected my only autograph, on a picture, taken by the editor of The Puller Magazine, that I gave to my father and 53 year puller, Maurice Stine, who also just died. I am so sorry for your loss. I do understand and hope that there is a heaven with a special place for the pilliars of motorsports.

Dusty And Family, My condolences to you all in this time of your loss. I have been a big tractor puller fan since I was in grade school and know I am 35. I grewup watching the Pro Stocks mainly but saw you pull at allot of the National events such as Bowling Green Ohio and Tomah Wisconsin. But i loved when your class came up to watch the Green Monster go down the track. Again my condolences to you. His legacy will live on forever will never be another Art Arfons.

Please accept my deepest sympathies on the passing of your esteemed patriarch. Art was one of my biggest heroes as a kid and as an adult. It was men like him who inspired me to become an engineer. Though we never met, we spoke on the phone several times. I remember receiving several vintage autographed photos in the mail from him back in the 80's. They are among my most prized and cherished possessions. The world of motorsports and personal achievement has lost one of it's most dramatic and humble citizens. God's speed to you, Art Arfons! p.s. How fast can you go with those angel wings?

Condolences to June and the Arfons family. Having met Art, (visiting the UK with June, Dusty and Randy) just once in the mid nineties (he was at the Thrust SSC build facility and at our National Motor Museum) he has remained an inspiration in speed. My own photographs of Art at the controls of CN7 remain as treasured as the Hot Rod magazines telling in pictures and words the battle he had with Craig for the ultimate speed record. A sad time now but happy memories will remain.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Art Arfons, truly a legend of land speed record breaking. I was fortunate to meet Art at Black Rock in 1997, a memorable experience to meet one of my all time hero's. I looked at him with awe but when we talked you knew that he was just a regular guy and an obvious gentleman. His story in land speed circles is both inspirational and legendary. What he achieved with the Green Monster and the way he went about it was amazing. There will never be another Art Arfons, you cannot improve on genius. My condolences to Art's family and friends. May he rest in peace. Paul Hannaford Speed Record Club

I was just a kid in 2nd grade when I first heard the name of Art Arfons who was battling on the salt flats to set a speed record. Since then he became a hero to me, and I came to love the salt where he met glory so often. Now he is gone - my hero is fallen.

When I was 15, working at Dragway 42, Mr. Arfons asked if I could get a tub of ice he could use to cool the statrer of a stubborn engine that would not start. When I did, he thanked me and asked that I call him Art. That began a friendship that included him asking me to go to the Flats, which I did. 41 years having a man this famous as my friend. Famous and a GENTLEMAN. What a combination. God Speed.
