Obituary of David Lee Smith

David L. Smith David L. Smith, 78, passed away Monday, November 12, 2007 at Aultman Hospital with his family around him, after a month's illness. David will be remembered by his loving wife of 52 years, Barbara J. Smith (Cassler); children Christopher D. Smith, Beth Ann Smith, Bradley E. Smith, Jean Marie Wurgler (husband Michael) and Gregory A. Smith along with sister Carolyn Addessi. David was Grandfather to Kenneth, Jessica, Gary, David, Samantha, Colin, Kristina, Anthony, Alexandra, Nicholas, Cody and Taylor. Siblings James Smith, Mary Hawk, Joseph Smith, Eugene Smith and Paul Smith preceded him in death. David was one of seven children born to Rose & Henry Smith in Jackson Twp. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1947 and Kent State University in 1963. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953. He was in education for 30 years and was the first Director for the Portage Lake Joint Vocational School in Green before retiring in 1985. David was a loving husband and father, fabulous grandfather, caring uncle and a good friend to many. The family will receive friends TODAY 4 to 7 pm at the Anthony-Biscan Funeral Home, 4178 Massillon Rd (corner of Massillon and Steese Rds in Green) where a Rosary will be recited TONIGHT at 7:00pm. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday 10:00am at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, Fr. Tom Kowatch officiating. Interment at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens where Military Honors will take place.
