Obituary of Joseph Albert Peticca
Joseph Albert Peticca, 91, passed away on July 12, at Heather Knoll in Tallmadge.
Born in Akron on October 21, 1920 to the late Patsy and Antoinette Peticca, Joe had been a lifetime area resident. He was a 1939 graduate of Buchtel High School. Joe served his country as a member of the US Army from 1942-1945, fighting in Africa & Italy, as well as serving in France. He was employed by the B.F. Goodrich Tire & Rubber Co. for nearly forty years, retiring in 1982. An accomplished baseball player, Joe was a 2-time all-city player for Buchtel High School and played one season in the St. Louis Cardinals farm system. He also pitched for several of the area's top semi-pro teams, as well as a US Army team. Joe also coached numerous youth baseball teams in South Akron. He was a member of the Firestone Park VFW Local 3383, as well as the Eagles Aerie #555, and was a 1992 inductee to the Greater Akron Baseball Hall of Fame. Joe was also an avid golfer.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sister & brother-in-law Anita & George Alexander and brother & sister-in-law Frank & Marietta Peticca, as well as his ex-wife & friend Ida Peticca. he is survived by his children Michael (Laura) Peticca of Lyndhurst and Pamela (Alan) DeMali of Akron; grandchildren Julie, Joseph, and Matthew Peticca & Jenna (Brian) Griffin.
A funeral service will take place on Monday at 1:00 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home KUCKO-ANTHONY-KERTESZ CHAPEL, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron, where the family will receive friends starting at 11 am up until the time of the service. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron.
