Obituary of Marjorie Smith

Marjorie A. Smith, 78, of Green, went home to be with the Lord after a valiant and courageous battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS) on Sunday, August 5, 2007. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, grew up in Firestone Park, lived briefly in Iowa, and graduated from Garfield High School. She attended Hammel Business College where she met her husband of 59 years, Joseph G. Smith, who survives her. She is also survived by her children Susie I. Smith, Richard J. (Chip) Smith, and Jody A. Smith along with grandchildren Michael Watson and Tyler Smith; brother Martin E. Craine of Oregon. Marjorie was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and served as organist in it's early beginnings. She was also active in the church choir, local choirs, the Republican Club and served as a booth worker for the Board of Elections. She served as a juror for the courts numerous times. She was an avid gardener and a member of the Nimisila Garden Club. Marjorie was a volunteer for the March of Dimes. She worked part-time for Cope Pharmacy in Manchester before retiring in the '90s and sewed numerous costumes for Magical Theatre Company in Barberton and Players Guild in Canton. She loved her music, flower gardens, and traveling. Calling hours will be Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Funeral Home 95 W. Waterloo Rd. where funeral services will be Thursday 11 a.m. with Rev. Jeffrey Hancock officiating. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be given to Messiah Lutheran Church 4700 S. Main St. Akron, 44319, or to the Hospice of VNS 3358 Ridgewood Rd.
