Obituary of Martha Floutz

-CUYAHOGA FALLS Martha C. Floutz, of Cuyahoga Falls, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 15, 2007, at Sunrise Assisted Living after a 5 1/2 year struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. Born in Lawton, Oklahoma on April 19,1910, Martha spent much of her childhood in Urbana, Ohio and Muncie, Indiana where she graduated from Central High School and then attended a 2-year business school program. In 1943, she left Defiance, Ohio, where she was working at the time, for Akron to work at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. In 1944, she married Dr. Vaughn Floutz, a Professor of Chemistry at Akron University. For the next 25 years, she was involved in the Akron University Faculty Women's Club. She also worked part-time for a number of years at the J. C. Penny Co. She was a member of Cuyahoga Falls Travel Club where she frequently enjoyed trips and programs planned by the organization. Martha was preceded in death in 2004 by Vaughn, her husband of over 60 years. She is survived by stepson, William Floutz (Jane), daughters, Beverly Thompson of Brownstown, Michigan and Barbara (Robert) Kerscher of Hudson, Ohio; grandchildren Brian (Carol) Floutz, Thomas (Jeanne) Floutz, Michelle (Wayne) Crabtree, Kristin Thompson, Leslie Thompson, Megan Harriman, Kelly (Ted) Engle, Laurie (Jeff) Zapp, and Steven (Jessica) Kerscher; as well as 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Martha was preceded in death by brothers, Marion Coffman, Ben Coffman, Edward Coffman, and Jack Coffman. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the McGowan-Reid and Santos Funeral Home, 247 Stow Ave., Cuyahoga Falls, with services following. Father Richard Macey officating.
