Obituary of Mary Lee Handschumacher
Mary Lee passed into her heavenly home on Tuesday, July 3, 2012.
She put up a valiant battle with leukemia and NHL for 11 years. She was born on February 27, 1943 to Clyde and Gladys Hamilton Henderson in Buckhannon, West Virginia. She received her BA at Glenville State College in 1964 and her MA from West Virginia University in 1970. She taught school for 41 years; 5 years in Chester, West Virginia, 1 year in Cowan, West Virginia, 27 years for Massillon City Schools and 8 years at Chapel Hill Christian School. Her many organizations included Delta Kappa Gamma, Phi Delta Kappa, MEA, ECOEA, OEA and NEA. She was a Martha Holden Jennings Scholar and was a dedicated Massillon Tiger Sports Fan. She loved her church, Greensburg United Methodist and attended many disciple classes, taught Sunday school, worked with the youth group and volunteered in the office.
She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband, Michael Kamarados. She is survived by husband, Bill of 42 years; son, Michael Kamarados; step-son, Brian (Tammy); step-grandchildren, Caleb, Levi and Olivia; step-great-granddaughter, Ali; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Alex (Marie) Kamarados, Costas Flatsousis, Dana Handschumacher, Robert Handschumacher, Mary Barger, Anna Mae Handschumacher and Charlotte (Hale) Jordan.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, 5 to 8 p.m. at the Anthony & Son Funeral Home of Green, 4178 Massillon Rd. (at the round-about at Steese Rd.) in Green, Ohio. Funeral service will be held Friday, 11 a.m. at the Greensburg United Methodist Church. Pastor Mitch Hennessey officiating. Graveside service and interment will be held Saturday, 1 p.m. at Handschumacher Cemetery in Upper Glade, West Virginia.
