Obituary of John Neidert

John "Grandpa" Neidert, age 73, passed away May 11, 2007. He was born in Nagyszekely, Hungary, and lived in the Akron area most of his life. He served in the United Stats Coast Gaurd and Coast Guard Reserve from 1952-1980. He was assigned to the USCGC Courier, broadcasting the voice of America from 1957-1958 and retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. He retired from the Goodyear Aerospace after 44 years of service, was a member of the American Legion of Kent, enjoyed riding his bike, enjoyed leather work and was a prize winner at the Portage County Fair many times. He is preceded in death by his mother Katharine and grandparents John and Katharine Wies. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Jean (Zimmerman), son John (Gena) of Ft. Walton Beach Florida, daughters; Andrea (John MacAleese) Neidert of Mogadore, Sharon (John Wise) Neidert of Mogadore, Kelly (Tony Rich) Neidert of Akron, grandchildren; Sharlene MacAleese of Mogadore, Emily Reynolds of Mogadore, and one granddaughter on the way from Florida. Calling hours will be Monday 4-7 p.m. at the McGowan-Reid & Santos Funeral Home at Third St. one block North of Portage Trail.
