Obituary of Roy Edward Gracy
Roy Edward Gracy, 95, of Green, Ohio passed away Friday, May 10, 2013.
Roy was born May 22, 1917 to Earl and Ellen (Hodapp) Gracy in Canton, Ohio. He was employed by Berger Division of Republic Steel for 32 years and Sears Roebuck in Alliance for 14 years.
Roy is survived by wife of 70 years, Marie; nephew, Bud (Astrid) Gracy; niece, Mary Jane Dyer; Godchild, Margaret Brooks (Jim); sister-in-law, Carol Gracy. He was preceded in death by son, Brian, killed by a drunk driver in 1996; sister, Clara Linn; brothers, Charles and Karl.
Roy enjoyed working with Boy Scouts, Troop 335, with his son and served six years as the troop Secretary-Treasurer. He gardened and liked to fix machinery. He could fix anything.
Roy was a 2 ½ year veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in the 87th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron Mechanized 7th Armored Division and landed at Normandy Beach on D+1. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds received during the battle of the Bulge in 1944 and was a member of VBOB Ohio Chapter 1.
Funeral arrangements were private as he requested and he was interred at Greensburg Cemetery.
