Obituary of Walter Lawrence
Walter E. Lawrence, Jr. passed away Friday, January 1, 2010 at his own home with his family at his side.
Walter was born September 17, 1932 to Walter E. and Clara (Boak) Lawrence in New Brighton, Pa. and had been an area resident most of his life. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He was employed by Roadway and P.I.E. as a diesel mechanic, retiring in 1990. He was a member of Allenside Presbyterian Church, VFW Firestone post 3383, Firestone Park Prime Timers and the Portage Lakes AARP. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America.
Walter loved to travel and enjoyed the outdoors. Allenside Presbyterian benefited from his experience as he took over as handyman after retiring.
Walter is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen; sons Walter E. Lawrence III of Barberton, Larry (Lisa) Lawrence of Akron and Gary (Diane) Lawrence of Akron; grandchildren Walter E. Lawrence IV, and Jaimie, Amanda, Matthew and Katie Lawrence; great- grandchild, Lucien; sisters, Clara Newell of Akron and Nancy (Chuck) Ilg of California. In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Benak.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday 11 a.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel (1990 South Main St., Akron) where the family will receive friends Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. Rev. Pete McCauley will officiate and burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Donations may be made to Alllenside Presbyterian or your favorite charity.
